The spare key

Get back in when Windows locks you out.

The situation

A Windows computer starts asking for a BitLocker recovery code. Your normal password cannot get you past that screen.

What Freeish does

Freeish gives authorized people a route to the recovery code, so a locked computer does not have to become a lost computer.

How it actually works

BitLocker encrypts the disk and creates a separate recovery password. Freeish supports two custody arrangements. In self-hosted escrow, an encrypted copy is held by your server and an administrator must request access. In the backup-contact arrangement, recovery depends on two pieces: one released to a verified contact and one protected by the server. The pieces are brought together only through an authorized release. The resulting code goes into the locked computer's Windows recovery screen, not an ordinary Freeish password field. Access is recorded.

Can I use this now, and what would I need?

Yes, for supported Windows BitLocker setups after recovery has been configured before the computer locks. The required people and server secrets must remain available. This unlocks an encrypted disk; it does not restore deleted or damaged files. Freeish can report the age of certain backup snapshots, but that does not prove a file backup can be restored.
